About.

Swedish born cittern maestro, Ale Carr, has performed worldwide on stages as varied as the Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, Roskilde Festival and in Hayao Miyazaki’s personal studio in Japan. Recipient of 10 Danish Music Awards, he has also been honoured with Composer of the Year award and with an Artist of the Year award in Denmark.

In 2009 together with the Danish virtuosos, Nikolaj Busk and Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen, he formed the trio Dreamers’ Circus which in recent years has pioneered new Nordic folk music internationally.

Ale Carr’s roots lie in Scania in the south of Sweden where he grew up in a family of folk musicians. The early exposure to lived folk music and dance remains an enduring influence on his performance and how he interacts with colleagues and friends in music. Challenging himself from an early age to develop the traditional music which he grew up with Ale began composing new music to broaden his artistic spectrum. Today, Ale is recognised as one of the leading string instrumentalists in Nordic folk music.

Apart from his ongoing work as a member of Dreamers’ Circus his various projects and collaborations have seen him perform together with the Finnish star Pekka Kuusisto as well as symphony orchestras, big bands, choirs and chamber ensembles like the Danish String Quartet.
