Introduction

Growing up in a family of traditional Swedish folk musicians, Ale Carr has been working full-time in the field of music since 2011. Renowned for his work with the award-winning Nordic trio Dreamers’ Circus, Carr frequently tours worldwide and records music.

He has wide experience as a composer, with his music featured across a range of art forms, recordings, orchestral performances, theater productions, dance performances, and television programs. Carr has also composed and performed music tailored for children throughout his career and serves as an active teacher and lecturer at the university level since 2011.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Carr has gained valuable experience in project management, governmental arts policies, and as an artistic director. An advisor to the Swedish arts council, he offers insight into government arts policies in the Nordic countries and has expertise in securing funding for international and long-term arts projects.

  • Musician

    On stage performing with his trio Dreamers’ Circus and orchestral projects with Pekka Kuusisto.

  • Composer

    Regularly composes music for Dreamers’ Circus and the projects he’s involved in. Ale Carr has been commissioned work by The Secret North, DR Pigekoret, DR Børnekoret, Copenhagen Philharmonic, Aaben Dans, Danish String Quartet, Østre Gasværk Teater and Yasunori Mitsuda (Square Enix).

  • Teacher

    Main teacher in cittern and similar instruments at Malmö College of Music since 2011. Also teaching folk music theory and ensemble, as well as various seminars and masterclasses, with a passion for Nordic folk music on plucked string instruments.

  • Presenter

    Artistic director of the festival Folkrot (est. 2013). Project manager of Folkets Festival (est. 2024). Board member at Nordic Folk Festival (est. 2021).

  • Recording artist

    Featured on over 30 albums, including collaborations with composer Yasunori Mitsuda, as well as projecs for games and TV.

  • Bureaucrat & Thinker

    Member of advisory board for the Swedish Arts Council. Administrator of Dreamers’ Circus as Special Ensemble by the Danish Arts Counil 2021-2027.
